rof did you catch the universe last night? they were discussing the use of kinetic weapons "rods from god" and other space based weapons. i've always resisted calling this nasa mission "bombing the moon" but after watching the show last night i'd have to say that is exactly what they are doing.......even if it is just for science......though i suspect the impact data will get passed on to the right people in the military.

I certainly did catch the show Drex...and whats funny is I thought of ya while I was watching it. Low posted this info about the moonbombing on dtv earlier in the night and then "the universe" was on and highlighted circumstances very similar to it. Was a really good show. Im a huge fan of "the universe" simply for its graphical attributes not to mention the topics etc...

exactly! i can watch a episode of the universe on a topic i'm burnt out on and gain a whole respect or perspective based on their graphical story telling alone..........not to mention the scientist they use who have that excitement and enthusiasm thats perfect for a show of its kind.
only misstep in last night's show was at the very beginning when the narrator opened the show with "its 100 years in the future"...........i'm thinking negro please.........we'd be lucky to have sent more probes to the moon much less have established colonies in a hundred years.........but thats just nit picking.

I know right? I wish. Oh well. The shows at the least very insightful and entertaining. I always try and seek out one bit of information I didnt know prior to watching the show and add it to the list. Then when I randomly whip out the tidbit of information and everyone on my softball team is looking at me like Im a moron, at least I can say with confidence that a gamma ray burst reaches 99.999 the speed of light...

see i'm not convinced that gamma ray bursts don't exceed the speed of light. gamma rays are light so they have to travel at that set speed........most bursts come from black holes where we know light can't escape.......but yet it does.......so the bursts must be moving faster than light to get away.

I believe the gamma ray bursts that are emitted from black holes dont cross the event horizon, which is why they do in fact escape. Something happens where the gamma ray is the end result of colliding matter pulled in by the immense gravity, but it never in fact reaches the event horizon. The explosion sends it reeling away from the black hole at near the speed of light. Something I picked up from watching these shows actually..lol
