Which band lost their way and which band still hit the right spot,I am of course talking about Green Day and The Offspring. I been a follower of them all through my teenage years while i was growing up,now I'm looking back on what they have done, and where they are now and it is my conclusion that Green Day lost the fight and The Offspring are still standing tall.
Here are 2 videos, vote for which one you think still has it!

Great call, Green Day have sold thier soul to commercialism, I cant stand so called "punk" bands who realease singles that are all ballads, pussy wankers.
Plus Offspring stayed true and stuck with Epitaph when they could have gone on to a bigger label.
I was watching a NOFX vids on Youtube the other day and one of the little kiddies had put a comment up that said "oh they sound just like Green Day", if I could have reached through the screen and strangled the little prick I would have

Yeah I hate that kind of shit,Green Day are nothing more than an image of their label. They jumped on the political band wagon just as quick as all those other bands during the bush war era. For a band to jump from childish dookie jokes to social and political commentary is ridiculous, ride the fucking wave or what! That was the moment I went off of Green Day for good, believe me I was a hardcore GD fan,I even enjoyed the Warning album.

If your gonna be a punk band stick to your roots.
If your gonna be political stick too it like Bad Religion,
or better yet just be drunken, drug taking madmen like Fat Mike.

Good choices there darryl You ever heard of the exploited or oxymoron? Yeah dont mind the Exploited, they were out here recently, but as with most of those bands now it was only the lead singer left so I didnt bother. Having said that, I did see Peter and the Test Tube Babies recently and they were real good.

But a couple months ago I took my son to his first rock concert which was headlined by Styx. I was a huge Styx fan in the 80s, and I just knew I would think they sucked and the evening was going to suck. Guys, I was blown fucking away. I saw 5 AWESOME musicians that rocked like hell. I would go back and see them any day. My favorite bands are Tool and Rush and I have have seen them both at least 3 times each. Not to mention every band that comes to Greenville/Charlotte that rocks. Styx kicked ass! I have eatin my words concerning "old washed up bands with posers".

The Offspring have been around forever, they started at the same time as Alice in Chains, but in Cali. Now, O kind of trip on the surfer sound of OffSpring, it's not my vibe anymore. And, I love GreenDay. I realized years ago that you didn't have to shred a lead to create a great song, and Billy Joe has some AWESOME vocal hooks plus his guitar tone is one of the best produced Marshall tones I've heard. My hat goes off to them. Still love Offspring, but their music has that "happy" feel in the melody. I tend to like a more diminished chord progression instead of ending a phrase on a high note, I like to slide it low or to a low 3rd or 5th, if it works. Just me.

Mate, some of the best shows I have seen recently have been by "old" bands, that what you get for getting old I suppose. Motorhead killed, and lemmy is in his 60s. Peter and the test Tube Babies was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. The Stooges were awesome a couple of years ago. Jeez, even NOFX and Bad Religion have been around for 20 years. I still see Sydney band The Celibate Rifles and they have been going for 26 years.
