Ok I am sick of seeing this a bit empty so I will post a personal theory of mine, don't ask me to prove it because that would be a bit on the impossible side.
I have this idea about dreams, I used to have a lot of dreams where you are still you, but everything else is just a bit different, you are not married to he same person, you don't live in the same place, just subtle little things.
Well you all know the multiple universe theory, where every action you take has multiple outcomes and each one of these outcomes is played out in a different realty.
What if when you dream you are in someway connected to these multiple realities, you somehow connect with your alternate selves and are aware of their lives, your still you, but a different you, who has made different choices.
Ever have that feeling when you wake up from a dream and feel like you have lost something, that something wonderful has been taken away, maybe thats the feeling of disconnection with your other selves.
Ever had the feeling when you are almost asleep and you feel like someone has hit you or hear a loud noise from nowhere, could this be something that is happening to an alternate you, that you feel.
Just a theory, but i have thought about this for some years now.

It has typically been understood that the brain doesn't know the difference between a dream and the waking state, so it points to the possibility that there is no difference in the brains physiological response because something "real" is occuring.

Could explain why in some dreams loved ones are not the same people we know in our reality but we feel the same type of love for them. Very interesting indeed. Good post d.

Yeah its kinda hard to prove, but I really like the idea, it seems to explain a lot of stuff that goes on in our dreams, an unconsious connection.
