A young lion got more than he bargained for at lunch time when he grabbed a dove bathing in a watering hole and found it had a hungry terrapin attached to its leg. The coincidence meant the lion seemed to have gotten two for the price of one as a snack. But while the bird was gobbled up by the lion - the feisty armoured terrapin made it safely back to his pool, despite being poked and pawed at for an hour. German wildlife lover and biologist Bernd Wasiolka, 40, who lives in Botswana, spotted the tussle at the Craig Lockhardt watering hole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa.
