what a unworthy excuse making machine he turned out to be. Ward outclassed him to the point that Green just fucking refused to throw punches.
Ward's corner must have known something. Their game plan wasn't to knock him out but to make him give up trying to fight. Which is exactly what happened.
After the fight Green spent 10mins coming up with every excuse under the sun. He was tired. He trained to hard...............the list went on and on.
It became rather evident why Green was getting his first shot at a title after 8 years as a pro with only one loss...........he fucking didn't deserve a shot.

I read an article yesterday, where they compared Ward to how Ali was treated by the pundits. (I know he's no Ali). But they said he is so talented, yet the writers have little faith in him and expect him to lose every "next fight". After him beating Kessler, I was sold. He ain't no joke. Green was. Why they didn't ask Lucien Bute instead of Green, I'll never know. He may be the best out of all of them. I haven't seen the fight yet, I may not. Too onesided

green had spent the weeks leading up to the fight bulling ward every time they had to appear together. about midway through the fight antonio tarver summed it all up when he said "there is one thing a bully hates.......and that is for someone to fight back."
i wouldn't say this fight was a defining moment for ward. it wasn't his abundance of skill so much as the complete and utter lack of skill by green. to be honest any other fighter would have knocked green out.

I agree, with the bully thing. And that's a very valid statement. The first time I remember it was Leonard vs. Duran (second fight) Leonard versus Hearns. Any fighter like Ward with a punch woulda taken him out. Green was scared. He got schooled, big time. No man, the fight with Kessler was Ward's defining point. Green's an overated fighter who has nothing on his resume. Ward against Abraham would be fun. Ward would outbox him forever, yet Abraham only has to land one punch. One and done. But can he?

That's the million dollar question slith. Can Ward make it through the entire tournament without getting caught. Green hit Ward with a good punch either in the first or second round that Ward shrugged off. The other big punchers are legit and a clean shot like Ward took from Green might end his night and unbeaten streak quickly.
Slith were you surprised that Ward took the fight to Green and fought him on the inside like he did? I was. Especially after hearing Ward say that was exactly where Green did most of his damage in fights.

I was surprised he took the fight to him for sure, but his strategy was sound. When you fight from a distance and are at the end of someones punch, that is when you are most susceptable to their power. Fighting on the inside mostly takes away the power for a head knockout, uppercuts excluded (a la Tyson vs. Douglas). Liver shots can be a problem too (Hopkins/de la Hoya). Ward has erased his early career jitters that led to being knocked down and wobbled on a few occasions. Not exactly sure how one does this, but he has. I know if he and Abraham meet he will thoroughly be able to outbox Arthur, but as Jermaine Taylor can attest, one shot from the dude is all it takes. Super six, for me, has lived up to the hype. Love it!

Yeah but Green was known for throwing his left hook out of a clinch. It was his money shot. The only at distance punch he had was a killer jab which he stopped throwing after the 2nd round.
Dude if not for you I would not have known about the Super Six. Its been awesome!
