the inn spectre caught on cctv in lanakshire
Chilling image ... eerie figure stalks the car park
SPOOKED staff at a 'haunted' hotel were left baffled last night after a ghostly figure was caught roaming the grounds in this creepy CCTV footage.
Stunned boss John Stirrat was watching the routine security tape when he saw a glowing spectral figure glide across the car park and appear to vanish through a closed door.
Fully spooked ... historic New Lanark Mill Hotel
It's just the latest in a string of creepy sightings at the historic New Lanark Mill Hotel - but the first time a 'phantom' has been recorded on film.
John, 35, said: "It's the strangest, eeriest thing I have ever seen.
"It makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up."
He added: "The camera shows a small bright figure, about 4ft high, possibly a child. It's seen bending and nodding before staying still for a bit.
"At one point it disappeared through a door without opening it, before reappearing."
Chilling
The camera looks out over a parking area at the Lanarkshire hotel, which in its past life was a working cotton mill.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the village was founded in 1785 and provided work for 2,500 poor Scots.
And there were around 500 children living in the community and working at the mills.
John, right - who insists he is sceptical about paranormal activity - admitted he was stumped by the chilling film.
He said: "There weren't any staff, guests or members of the public outside at the time."
But he added: "New Lanark's always atmospheric and the heritage village has a fantastic history, so I suppose it's the kind of place where ghostly activity could conceivably occur."
Workers at the hotel have reported a number of strange sightings over the years.
In 1999 STV presenter Alison Craig fled after being told it was haunted.
Half the film crew of STV's Summer Discovery show also abandoned their stay.
