The amazing picture was taken by Astro_Soichi as the ISS hurtled through the natural spectacle at 28,000km per hour (17,400 mph). The picture shows a green glow hovering about 100km (60 miles) above the earth, created when particles enter the atmosphere and collide with oxygen and nitrogen atoms, giving them an electric charge. A red band above it reaches up to 500km (300 miles) above the planet, enabling the space station to travel directly through it at a height of 400km (240 miles). In the foreground of the image part of the space station, including a Progress capsule – used to bring supplies such as air, food and water to the space station – is also visible. Internet users have responded in vast numbers, with most praising the picture itself and the astronaut's photographic skill in capturing it. Is it the best aurora photo ever taken from space? www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7559141/Northern-lights-captured-on-camera-from-Space.html wow shes a beauty
