Thought I would make a new thread for this.
The current state of horror movies is really pretty sick.
It started with the Saw movies, it was also evident in RobZombies movies, House of 1000 corpses and Devils regects.
There seems to be a trend to make the killers cool. Saw seeks to show that you can test human frailties and morals by torturing people to death, Jigsaw or whatever they called him was made out to be the hero.
The ending to Devils Rejects really offended me too, dont get me wrong, the movie wasnt bad, but that bit at the end where they sped towards the road block with "freebird" playing in the back round made it seem like they were just misunderstood and were trying to live thier life free and were stopped by the "man".
Theres something really sick about this current trend.

true but the sicker the better I think! I liked house of 1000 corpses thought it was good and had a good ending! didnt think devils rejects was as good though!
The saw films I was dissapointed with them! I watched two and never watched anymore. they had the opertunity to make those films really sick and didnt! one scene for instance where they found the guy tangled up in barbed wire dead. he had to crawl through it.......why didnt you see him crawling through it it would of made the film a whole lot better!
it might just be me being sick but these type of films can and should be made to be alot worse than they are!!!
I think I have watched Braindead to many times lol

See, now there is nothing wrong with Braindead, that was just funny, but this business of making someone who slaughters innocent people to be some how "cool" just dosnt sit right with me.
I dont mind the content, the more people hacked up the better, its just the idea they are presenting, that its ok to slaughter innocent people.
Friday13, Halloween, etc, you knew the killers were evil bastards, they didnt try to make out they were acting on some kind of moralistic motives.......apart from trying to stop teenagers boinking in deserted laneways of course

nice catch darryl. you are exactly on point my friend. what you have is these directors who were so in love with the late 70s early 80s horror movies that they transfer their fan love to their characters. rob zombie basically tailored his music, look and life after these movies. with saw what you are seeing is the modern version of the immoral dying. jason always killed teens who were having sex and/or had loose morals. jigsaw kills those with severe character flaws. rob zombie feels a closer connection to the killers than those being killed so he basically made texas chainsaw massacre from the point of view of the evil family trying to garner sympathy for them.
now you are seeing a battle for most gruesome and imaginative death. hostile and saw being the two heavyweights. i'd give the edge to saw. no matter how imaginative the death without a good story its just a snuff film. and the saw story was already thin but now is see through.

right on the money big d if the characters were real lifethey would be some seriously twisted people, glorifying them in the manner you speak of, is pretty fucked up I cannot identify with them as heros either
