Mysterious knobs at Ancient Megalithic Sites – Molded / Cast or Quarried?
The mysterious knobs are observed at many ancient megalithic sites across the globe, in the Mediterranean area, Egypt, India, China and Peru. Some of the most famous archeological sites include: the polygonal walls at Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Machu Picchu, the Menkaure pyramid at the Giza plateau, the Osireion at Abydos, Egypt, and Yangshan quarry in China. To clarify, I think the knobs at different megalithic sites are neither created the same way nor serve the same function. I categorized these knobs to at least four types associated with their specific construction methods. For instance, the rectangular knobs at Greek and Roman temples are different from the random shaped knobs of Peru. These Peruvian knobs, however, might have been produced the same way as certain Egyptian ones. Even knobs at the same site, say Machu Picchu, were not created for the same purpose. Therefore, we cannot generalize and put all the so-called knobs in one pot and regard them equally.
