let me tell you why roy is not a bernard hopkins.
roy was so naturally talented when he was younger and had speed plus power unlike any before. because of this he failed to learn anything while fighting in his prime. all the tricks and tactics that veterans use to win fights he thought he was too good to concern himself with.
now that his speed is no where near what it once was he should be fighting smart.....but he doesn't. all he does is hold his hands low, sticks his chin out and thinks he is 25 again. he dances around and does his chicken dance and looks fucking ridiculous doing it.
green got lucky. he hit roy with a shot that no veteran would allow someone to hit them with......a freakin behind the head shot. the one punch in boxing that doesn't need to be a clean shot to end your night. the ref should have stopped the action to warn green for holding his head down but it would not have mattered it would have just prolonged the inevitable.
now someone needs to bitch slap hopkins and get him to stop his crusade to have a rematch with roy. he still wants to fight him even though roy lost to green and bernard just won his latest fight. hopkins has a shot to get his name back in the mix for some big fights but if he doesn't stop this silly quest to avenge his loss to roy in 93 he won't get the chance he has earned.
i wish i could say this will be roy's last fight but his ego has proven stronger than his intellect.

I'm sorry but the fact that either if those two guys, a guys 10 years past his best, Roy, and a guy just out of retirement, who wasnt that good to begin with, Green, are anywhere near a world title belt just shows what a farce boxing has become.

Yeah Green got lucky and I agree, Jones hasn't learned from his previous mistakes. This being said, I also agree with Darryl to an extent. The alphabet titles represented in boxing today are a joke. World champion? Okay when you have 5 or six separate entities and title holders in the same division, the disparagy has become too much. WBA, WBC and IBF were bad enough. Now with the addition of the IBO etc. Who gives a shit anymore. But also, in the same sentence I will say this super six tournament is a great step towards a bit of redemption. Plus the Manny vs. Floyd fight will be huge and bring the spotlight back to boxing. They are moving in the right direction, but yeah, they need to remove the dinosaurs and need to promote this stuff by showcasing the fighters on free T.V.

both of you are spot on. boxing has suffered hard times due in part to legends not knowing when to call it quits, lack of great matchups, and the rise of mma.
the sup6 tourney is the first real exciting thing to happen in boxing in almost 20 years. the format of the tournament actually makes all these bullshit titles interesting because its cool to see who could collect the most belts on their journey to the championship. if they can put together something like this for heavyweights boxing has a chance for a comeback.
had it not been for slith i wouldn't have paid a ton of attention to the sup6. i didn't think showtime could pull something this cool off. hbo might as well just be known for a few elite fights a year because they have snubbed mma while showtime has strikeforce........and now showtime with sup6 is kicking their ass in boxing for the first time.
slith since showtime and cbs are the same company and cbs has shown two prime time mma events.........i fully expect them to start showcasing boxing in the sameway.
