Okay Aard, as hard as I have tried, I have never been able to come close to the fish and chips from England. What is the secret? Guinness in the batter?

Ah but food is the powerhouse isnt it lol.. if yor stomach is happy thats a good for the rest of the bod..
Slith, you may be right it could be the batter, in my opinion best if not to thick. Unfortunately due to health and safety reasons the serving of this feast on inked paper has now ceased and that used to be a very important ingredient in my humble opinion!

Yeah man. In the time I spent in England, the fish wrapped in newspaper was something I loved and was very traditional. They don't do that anymore. WTF? Why?

Nice one then Slith you have first hand experience then in Blighty! Yes damn right crazy health and safety eh you can catch a lot from newspapers not only second hand bugs but the ink also, I would say that propaganda poisoning is far more serious however!

It can be frustrating Drex, cos you end up reading something and then you either cant finish the article cos of grease stains or your missing the next page of fiction!

I've tried to recreate proper fish 'n chips for years! The chips, I've got close. But, the fish still eludes me. Even bought a deep fat fryer to try some different batters. I reckon its a thin batter. Still trying. But the price of good cod is slightly prohibative.
The one thing I do love though. Is freshly caught Pickrel (walleye I think), or Northern Pike. Pan fried in butter, with just a bit of flour, salt, pepper and eaten round the campfire. I don't get that in the UK. Well, at least where I live.
