Leave the classics alone, without Bruce Cambell whats the point? Actor Bruce Campbell may be getting wider mainstream recognition these days because of his starring role on USA's hit TV series Burn Notice, but in the horror fan community he has always been a superstar thanks to his portrayal of coward-turned-hero Ashley "Ash" Williams in Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead and its two sequels, Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn and Army of Darkness. Campbell set down Ash's trademark chainsaw hand nearly two decades ago, but he's helping to bring the "Deadites" back as a producer, along with Raimi and Robert Tapert, of the Evil Dead remake. Based on the synopsis of the remake that was recently released, it appears that the plot will stick closely to that of the original movie. However, Campbell revealed in a recent interview with TV Guide that there will be at least one major difference between the original and the remake: no Ash. We are going to remake it. The original. And people are a little iffy about that. You know, we wanted to remake a movie that would have better effects [and] we're better at telling stories now. We found a young filmmaker — Fede Alvarez, who's from Uruguay — who's gonna direct the thing. There's no "Ash" character in it and that pisses people off, because it's like, "How can you have Evil Dead without Ash?" We didn't want to have the direct comparison. If you put Ash and all of those characters in it, then they go, "Aw, that guy was okay." I wouldn't want to put an actor in that position. When asked if he would be making an appearance in the remake, Campbell told TV Guide, "I don't know," though he could simply have been playing coy. In an interview conducted back in July, Alvarez said that Campbell will be the "only recognizable face" in the movie and that he will "cameo toward the end of the film."
