I went out fishing for blue cod with my brother in NZ a few years back and hooked a Great White, it didnt take long to come to the surface but when it did I had my head hanging over the side of the boat to see if I could see it. Well it came flying out of the water, shook its head, cut the line and was away.
It was only a little one 12-14 feet, but it was one of the most amazing creatures I have ever seen for real.
How anyone could kill one is beyond me.

Thanks Guys, you know you echo my sentiments and we have to take care of our oceans more, I have it in my head now to try and Email these places more often and not just sit back! What a great expereince make's the catching of my first brown trout pale into insignificance, must say in defence that I put it back again in the reservoir as it was only small!

That the one thing I love about going back to NZ, the fishing, last time I was over me and my dad went out on a reservoir to do a bit of trolling, I had never caught a fish trolling so didn't expect much. Caught 10 Brown trout, up to about 6 pounds......they didn't go back....thems good eatin

Agreed DarrylM, I was mesmerised watching a tv programme in NZ, blokeys driving down a mud track for half a day then parking up and another day canoeing to this great spot in the wilderness, catching fantastic fish all grilled in the evening over the open fire and a few beers well bliss! Cant remember where it was but it was issolated.
We need to ask Slith how best to grill a Brwnie ie herbs?, all I use is butter and sea salt!

My dad said we were going fishing, so we get the Landrover out, hook up the boat and proceeded to drive for an hour up into the mountains.
The lake was only accesablie by 4wheel drive, there was no one else there, it was at about 2500 feet above sea level.
6 hours we were putting around that lake, my dad had to pay for a fishing licence and was determined to get his bag limit of 12, part of his ongoing war with the government or some such thing.
Now I live in Australia, so I am used to the sun and the heat, but the funny thing is everytime I go back to NZ I get the worst sun burns ever, something to do with the low latitudes I think.
So I paid for those fish with about 10 layers of skin.
But shit they were nice.

DarrylM, its rather ironic that eating fish is good for you, ie the protein and the oils especially on our bones and skin and yet catching fish isnt, as you have testified!
