I think there is a time period involved, not sure how long, but I thought it was around 20 odd years.

I am afraid the Tasmanian Tiger is gone forever, a monument to mans stupidity.
I saw an interesting thing about the DoDo the other day, I had always assumed they were eaten to extintion, turns out they were shit to eat and once again it was the rats eating thier eggs in thier nests on the ground that did them in.

I find it incredably sad to see a species go extinct. The Kakapo parrot in New zealand is on its last legs. There only 86 still alive and they are in trouble.
Part of the problem is contained in this video, they are incredably stupid birds, tend to try and shag everything.
My neice volanteers for the Dept of Conservation in NZ. They sit there all night watching thier nests, when the parrots go out feeding they run in with heat packs to keep the eggs warm.
More often than not they have to take the eggs away because the Kakapo simply forgets about them and dosnt come back.
This really could be a case of an animal that has reached the end of it evolutionary cycle.

Well said BrillB and very interesting fact about the Dodo bird Darrylm cos I thought it was because they were so docile that they didnt run from being killed for sport, prey.
Its a travesty that as the top animal on this planet we make (that is a few of us) in the name of greed, such a damn hash of looking after the environment and the animals on this planet.

I You leave my New Zealand parrots alone Shatner, besides theres only 80 odd left so it would be a shame to get a taste for them. But really they are pretty dumb, they cant fly, which is a stupid situation for a bird to find itself in, so thier only defence mechanism is, when they hear something coming they frezze and try to hide. Unfortunately they seem to have forgotten they stink like hell, a real strong musty smell, so any dogs, cats, ferrets or whatnot just follow the smell.
