A nightclub bans fat girls. The message, "No fat girls allowed" was posted on their Facebook page. The nightclub, "Club Muzique," didn't realize the post was on their page until after the event had taken place! The post was deleted by the Montreal club but the backlash is just beginning.
Apparently, the post on Club Muzique's Facebook page was suppose to be funny. However, blatant discrimination is not funny and probably angered many people. Even though the message of “NO FAT GIRLS ALLOWED!!!!!!”was posted for a birthday party, it still sparked a wave of outrage.
John Jay, a Muzique’s communication and marketing staffer, stated:
“It was taken down as soon as we found out about it…It was someone thinking he was funny. We didn’t even realize (the comment) was there until a couple of days ago, and it was too late to retract it because the event had already happened.”
Stefano Apostolakos, a Montreal club promoter stated:
“Everybody knows (Clubs) are selective and discrimination comes with the right to refuse entrance...They’ll never tell you you can’t come in because of your looks. But at the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to, usually. It’s the sad truth.”
Apotolakos is right. Anyone's who's ever been to a club will agree that discrimination happens before they even step foot inside the club.
Bouncers, promoters and the like will factor in attractiveness, sex appeal and overall attitude when choosing who can go in and who stays outside. It's a horrible truth but one that is very well known. So, what do you think about this ban?
