Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands mega-resort unveiled Marina Bay Sands, Singapore’s newest mega-resort, has officially opened following a two-day grand ceremony. The £3.7bn complex has been developed by gaming operator Las Vegas Sands and is being billed as Singapore’s leading ‘entertainment destination’. Facilities include a 2,560-room luxury hotel, casino and spa, as well as a 120,000 sqm convention centre, the largest in the region. The hotel’s three glass towers are topped by the Sands Skypark, a 60 storey-high observation deck with restaurants, gardens and the world’s longest elevated swimming pool. For meetings, five floors of exhibition and convention space can accommodate up to 45,000 delegates, with 250 meeting rooms and a grand ballroom for up to 11,000. Still unfinished, the resort will continue to open in phases, with two theatres, a museum and outdoor event plaza due to open later this year. Marina Bay Sands president and chief executive officer Thomas Arasi said: “Marina Bay Sands will deliver an entertainment, leisure and business experience unlike any other in the world.” More than 18 million visitors a year are expected to visit the resort once it is fully completed, he added. In February this year, Singapore’s first casino resort was opened by Resorts World Sentosa, which includes six hotels and Universal Studios Singapore.
