Ok. I'm no doctor.
But, is cholesterol not a type of fat?
Has fat not been used to lubricate, since forever?
How does a lubricant make arteries hard? How do arteries get hard?
As I said. I'm no doctor. But, what is the hardest substance in our body? What is used to make it?
Calcium. Calcification. What does the body need (and make naturally) to process calcium?
Vit D.
D'nnay worry about the skin cancer. That is caused from the sunscreens you slather on your skin. And retards that spend the whole day in the sun.
Anyway. Back to topic.
The medetaranian diet has nothing to do with heart disease. It's the sun and vitamin D production in the body.
At the moment, I'll not get into why. A bit tipsy.
But. IN MY OPINION if you wanna stop heart disease.
Get a bit of sun.

We produce some cholesterol in our bodies; we get the rest from food stuff. Its in our cells and bloodstream. We need cholesterol to produce cell membranes and certain hormones. It plays other important roles in other bodily functions as well like helping produce vitD and bile salts.
Cholesterol can’t dissolve in the blood. It has to be transported to and from the cells by carriers called lipoproteins. There is two main types of blood cholesterol, good cholesterol (HDL – high density lipoprotein) and bad cholesterol (LDL – low density lipoprotein).
HDL the ‘good’ cholesterol tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Where the bad cholesterol tends to stick to the artery walls.
Apart from diet, the best thing to take for high cholestrol is Lecithin. It brings the levels right down within a month or so.
