The casini probe has pulled another suprise with its detection through its plasma spectrometer of water in the atmosphere of Saturns small moon Enceladus. Full story here news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8495663.stm

you said probe ... hehe heeh ehhee heeeh eeheeh ha ha so if theres water then there could be life??? sure why not? what kind is another story but yea I think so.... look at all the weird stuff just on our planet ..I m not talkin crypto"s but for example the stuff that lives in extreme environments like at the bottom of the sea by volcanic chimineys .. they survive and flourish in extreme heat atmospheric pressures and do not breathe oxygen and that is just one example.... so why couldn t this happen somewhere else on another world?

The latest thought is that a silicon based lifeform is highly probable...Silicon Wiggy : )

back to topic........ where ever there is liquid water there is the potential for life..............but that is based on our knowledge and origins. i get extremely pissed when scientists narrow the search for life into only carbon based life forms and the materials needed to support them. we have no clue what odd mixture of gasses in liquid form might be able to produce life. we've created bacteria that feeds on oil spills.......why would nature not take this one step further to have organisms that thrive in pools of liquid natural gas? and who is to say you have to have liquids of any type? life will take hold anywhere it can. you carry some ancient microbes to a desert planet made up of exotic material and those microbes will find away to adapt. i don't mind scientists only looking for planets that have resources like ours. its something they know about and know what to look for. given our current technology and limited telescope abilities it makes sense. its when they hypothesize about life and discount any other methods but what we can understand that really irritates me. aards brings up the point of silicone based life forms........that is as far out of the box as most researchers are willing to go and again its still a material and process they have intimate knowledge of. chances are that intelligent life IS going to be carbon or silicone based because of its properties but the vast majority of worlds with life are not going to have intelligent life. i know i am nit picking i just really despise the arrogance that our scientists seem to have sometimes. that gives me an idea for a topic. good post aards.

Obviously go with you on this Drex, if we think outside of the box anything is possible, but I think scientisits especially of the younger generation are doing just that. On the subject of lifeforms there is thought of Ammonia based forms also due to it being detected in our solar system. The article link below also proposes that this new lifeform maybe closer to home than we think quote 'Another interesting theory suggests that there are advanced civilizations based on silicon based and ammonia based life forms deep below the crust of the earth. Those who have dug well below the crust of the earth and tried to hear sounds, have heard something called “sound of hell” or loud speeches and noises from below the ground. An experiment in Russian Siberia proves that theory. It is possible as we move in out technology and go deep into the core of the earth, we will find life forms way different than ours'. www.indiadaily.com/editorial/3387.asp
