I realize dlslith and blacky cant read, but I thought I would be all intellectual and discuss books.
Clive Barker- I love his books, "Imajica" is an absolute masterpiece, all about other world cut off from our own and the attempts to reconcile them. A lot of his books deal with this theme, "the great and secret show" and "weaveworld", deal with similar themes.
Bernard Cornwell- his historical fiction is brilliant, he writes about real historical events, but with fictional characters. He tends to write in series, the "grail Quest"series was really good, as is the on going "warlord"series, which is about the formation of England under king Alfred and the battles with the Vikings.

Non Fiction. "Double Cross" by Sam and Chuck Giancana- a great read for those interested in JFK and the mafia.
"Please Kill Me" by Legs Mcneil and Gillian McCain- the complete oral history of the early NYC punk bands.
"Neddy" by Authur Stanley "neddy"Smith and Tom Noble- The true story of criminal Neddy Smith and the corrupt cops of NSW, Aust.
"The Ice Man" by Pillip Carlo- the true story of serial killer Richard Kuklinski, a really good, if chilling, read.

Yeah theres a sting in the tail of that died in prison thing though, appearantly he was about to reveal that the Justice department knew that Sammy "the Bull" gravano was involved in the murder of a cop, before they gave him immunity. Very embarassing for the justice department. He claimed just before he died they were going to murder him. Not a great loss, but I loved those interviews, he seemed like a really intelligent guy, and really was interested in why he was the way he was. I am sure some people are just born without certain emotions.

Ah but I got you beat. Enough beer in me I can read read three books at a time. I go beyond double vision my friend. I like Sci-fi-fantasy, and horror. Koontz (shit almost spelled is it a much worse way), King et al. But my favorites are Terry Brooks and Michael Moorcock. You English blokes I'm sure appreciate the latter. And not only that, but Moorcock has actually jammed with Blue Oyster Cult. How cool is that!

I used to like Dean Koontz, but his Odd Thomas series really has me pissed off, I keep buying the new ones, but it pisses me off to do it, nothing ever happens, you keep waiting for the big ending and it never comes. My sister is the biggest King fan in the world, has all his books, but we have a therory about king. I dont think he writes his books anymore, I think he has franchised out his name. His latest books just are not that good.
