The Ramones have been described as the "Beatles of Punk", I shall put this to the test and attempt to see if these "beatles" were anywhere near as good as the Ramones.
Just a start.

It's really difficult to compare the two. They're both great in their own rights. Also, two very different eras- especially The Beatles early stuff. You really have to consider the times that they each come from, and what was going on at those times. We've "come a long way, baby" - at least on some fronts. lol
I love both for differet reasons.

The beatles win hands down ... they revolutionned music, the Ramones revolutionned punk music , as far as creativity, melodies and songwriting are concerned ... the Beatles are the best ever (as a band)
Sorry but I really think they can't even be put in the same sentence, I'd compare the Ramones to the Pistols or the Stone Roses ... not to the Holy Bugs

In reality they can be compared, in a poll in Spin magazine rated the most influential bands of all time as 1/Beatles 2/ Ramones. They re-energized a tired and worn out music scene that was domintaed by tired staduim rock. They have been described as the "johnny appleseeds"of punk because where ever they went from 1974-1979 they started a music scene, left a hundred young bands to form and flourish, including the sex pistols, clash etc. They showed kids all over america and europe that you didnt need to be a musical genius to play good music, you just had to have the desire. Without the Ramones there would never have been a Punk, a Grunge, hardcore. They, just like the beatles started a movement that re-energized music all over the world.
