Sir Evelyn de Rothschild has died aged 91, according to a family statement. The businessman, born in London in 1931 and a scion of the Rothschild financial dynasty, is understood to have suffered a stroke two years ago and caught Covid earlier this year, but his family said he died “peacefully at home”. Sir Evelyn, who is said to have advised the Queen on financial matters, served as chief executive and chairman of NM Rothschild and Sons Ltd between 1976 and 2003, and was chairman of The Economist from 1972 to 1989. In 1989 he was knighted by the Queen for services to banking and finance.
