Agents uncovered 32 marijuana plants on Monday by following directions found in a Montgomery County jail inmate's book. On Sunday, Deputy Amanda Pierce was looking through a book that a Montgomery County Jail inmate was trying to pass to a visitor when she noticed some writing inside, according to a news release from Jamie Dexter, spokesman for the 19th Judicial District Drug Task Force. Deputy Pierce handed the book to Sgt. Marty Pierce. "After reading through it, he realized it was directions to several outdoor marijuana grows," said Lt. Jesse Reynolds, director of the Task Force, said in the release. "When he realized this, he called Agent Luis Zapata with the DTF, who immediately recovered the book." Zapata studied the directions and determined the three locations of the plants, and, along with Reynolds, Agent Mark Lankford and Lt. Ron Farley, tracked down the locations early Monday morning. "It was like being a little kid and trying to decipher a treasure map," Reynolds said in the release. "It was difficult to do because the areas were larger than most residential plots." Some of the plants were taller than 6 feet, the release said. Reynolds praised Pierce's attention, which led to the seizures. "It was a good day for getting drugs off the streets because of Pierce's attention to detail," Reynolds said. The investigation and charges are pending. www.theleafchronicle.com/article/20111025/NEWS01/110250357/1002/rss
