An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 has struck in the English Channel, the British Geological Survey (BGS) said. The quake had a depth of 10km and its epicentre was south of Portsmouth, according to the BGS. Residents in parts of West Sussex reported buildings shaking for a few seconds at about 0800 BST. Sussex Police, Solent Coastguard and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they had not been called out to any incidents related to it. 'Largest since 1734' David Kerridge, from the BGS, said it was the biggest incident of its kind in the area for nearly 300 years. He said: "This is the largest earthquake in this area since a magnitude 4.5 event in 1734. "Historically, there have been two other significant events nearby - a magnitude 5.0 earthquake in 1878 and a magnitude 4.3 earthquake in 1750. "In the UK, we experience an earthquake of this magnitude approximately every two years." Small earthquakes are not uncommon in the British Isles. In January a 3.6-magnitude quake struck 9km (5.5 miles) north-west of Ripon, North Yorkshire. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-14153116

I must bring this up again. It was something i said back a few years ago at DTV and on here. I had wrote on the 18/8/08 in my notes! quote, In the last month there have been over 200 earthquakes including china that were caused by a shockwave that was 10km or 6.21 miles underground.]unquote.
Last year I came accross a few videos that raised a question about a certain type of earthquake that kept reoccurring around the globe. They have since been taken off of youtube,But they were showing how quakes at a depth of 10km or 6.21 miles kept occurring. Shortly after viewing those videos the quake in L'Aquila, Italy occurred... and yes... it was at 6.21 miles! It's worth keeping an eye open and the thought in the back of the mind, next time a serious quake occurs at 6.21 miles in depth! ITALIA=6.21 miles in depth CHINA=6.21 miles in depth TURKEY = 6.21 miles in depth JAPAN=6.21 miles in depth
Oh and dont forget The USGS says an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 occurred in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island at Saturday 04:35:44 AM local time (Friday 16:35:44 UTC). Officials in New Zealand say the magnitude was 7.1. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.0 kilometers (6.21 miles).
The April 2011 Fukushima earthquake (¸£u±häºÍ¨¤êµØÕð Fukushima-ken Hamad¨ri jishin?, lit. "Fukushima Hamad¨ri earthquake"[5]) was a potent magnitude 6.6 Mw intraplate aftershock that occurred at 17:16 JST (08:16 UTC) on Monday, 11 April 2011. With a shallow focal depth of 10 km (6.21 miles)
???Ummm? natural or manmade?

Interesting, I was told a while back that they sometimes just give an avarage depth when they dont know what it was.
