Arrests After 'Burglar' Stabbed To Death
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a suspected burglar was stabbed to death at a home in Salford.
It is believed the 26-year-old man was part of a gang attempting to get into a property on Ethel Avenue in Pendlebury just before midnight on Wednesday.
The owner of the property is thought to have disturbed the group, who were wearing balaclavas, as they began their raid.
Residents said they understood intruders tried to break into the back door of the home, then police received a 999 call from a woman at the house.
The dead man was apparently carried away from the house by the other gang members as they fled. He died later in hospital.
Police say he has yet to be formally identified. A post mortem is due to be carried out but officers say he had at least one stab wound.
The three arrested are a 59-year-old man, 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. They are being held on suspicion of murder.
Sky News understands they are the homeowner Pete Flanagan, his son Neil and Neil's girlfriend.
Neighbour Sylvia Sharp-Cadigan, said: "I went to bed at 10 o'clock and about 12 heard all this commotion, all voices. There was four police cars outside.
"I came down and said to the police, 'What's going on?' He said 'There's been a break-in'. I said, 'Is anybody hurt?' and he said, 'I can't say any more'."
Mrs Sharp-Cadigan, 67, described Mr Flanagan as a "worker" who left early in the mornings and his son as a "lad" who had a lot of visitors to the house.
She added: "We are all upset because it is a quiet little street, we never have any bother. You don't like it on your own doorstep."
A cordon has been put up around the terrace house, which backs on to open scrubland.
Greater Manchester Police said an investigation was in its early stages.
"Police were called to an address on Ethel Avenue following reports of a burglary and a group of men carrying an injured man on to Hospital Road," a spokesman said.
"On arrival at Hospital Road, police found a 26-year-old man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead."
"Two men and a woman have been arrested and remain in police custody."
Salford Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Kevin Mulligan added: "Clearly this is a shocking incident and a man has lost his life.

This pisses me off,
If i went to a place trespassing, like a train track or horse track and i got killed, would they prosecute the horse, trainer, jockey or track or the train driver?
NO!............... "as i wasn't supposed to be there!.
SO if a burglar wearing a balaclava breaks in to ya home with others, why the fuck should you the home owner be the one hauled of for using self defense?
He lost his life through going in to a home to burgle it!
The owners should be given a meddle!
If someone broke in to my home i would do what i could to protect me and mine, and if that means hacking off the intruders head with an axe then so be it.
Bring it to my door, then pay the price!
