There was once a time when man looked to the skies and expected to see giant balloons rather than airplanes drifting above. The Hindenburg Disaster promptly put an end to those dreams. But nearly a century later, one company may have finally figured out how to build a dirigible suitable for the 21st century. Just don't call it a blimp. Related
Not a Blimp, Not a Plane: The Gigantic Aeroscraft Is Ready, and It's Awesome
This is a new type of rigid aircraft. It's not a blimp, and it's not an airplane, but this thing has the potential to alter the way we… Read… This fully rigid airship, dubbed the Aeroscraft, differs fundamentally from, say, the Goodyear blimp. Blimps, by definition, have no internal structure and maintain their shapes only through the pressure of the gas they contain; when the gas escapes, they deflate like the gigantic balloons they are. Rigid airships, like zeppelins before them, maintain their shape regardless of gas pressure thanks to an internal skeleton structure—the Hindenburg utilized highly flammable balsa wood, but the Aeroscraft's is made of aluminum and carbon fiber—and maintains its buoyancy with a series of gas-filled bladders. And unlike hybrid airships, the Aeroscraft doesn't require forward momentum to generate lift via a set of wings. It's all helium power.
The Aeroscraft has been under development by Aeros Corp, the world's largest airship and blimp maker, since 1996. The project has received over $35 million in R&D funds and the government has even lent the company a couple of NASA boffins to help develop the aerodynamics and control systems. And with the successful launch of its half-scale prototype, the Pelican, last weekend, the investment looks to have paid off. The future of lighter-than-air travel looks to be imminently upon us.
2
3SExpand At 266 feet long and 97 feet wide, the Pelican prototype is just about half the size of what a full-scale Aeroscraft will be. If completed the Aeroscraft will measure more than 400 feet long and be capable of lifting 66 tons or more. Unlike blimps that maintain a constant buoyancy and rely on ballast and fans to adjust their altitude, the Aeroscraft will employ a unique bladder system that can alter the craft's static heaviness (relative to air) at will, dubbed COSH (Control of Static Heaviness). The system actually works quite similarly to how submarines use compressed air to float. The Aeroscraft is equipped with a series of pressurized helium tanks. When the pilot wants to increase altitude, non-flammable helium is released from the tanks through a series of pipes and control valves, into internal gas-bladders called helium pressure envelopes (HPEs). This increases the amount of lift the helium generates, reduces the craft's static heaviness, and allows it to rise. When the pilot wants to descend, the process is reversed. This allows the Aeroscraft to easily land and take on cargo or passengers without having to be tied down or add external ballast. Additionally, the Aeroscraft will be equipped with a trio of engines—one on each side and a third on the belly—and six turbofan engines to provide thrust and augment the COSH's lift, as well as aerodynamic tail-fin rudders and stumpy wing control surfaces, for high speed travel—that is, above 20 mph. Oh it'll get you there, it's just going to take a while.

yea I think the russians would have blown nasa off the TV if the moon landings were faked ... they would have known by tracking our rockets and told every media entity they could, I don t think they would miss an opportunity to make the USA look like a bunch of lying stooges to the rest of the world

The moon takes 29.5 days to complete one synodic cycle. This cycle is what we observe from earth, and it is the cycle we would measure from, say, one full moon to the next. However, by the time a synodic cycle ends, the moon has rotated a little more than 360 degrees. This is hard to grasp and takes some time and thought. The rotation of bodies that are orbiting other bodies always presents a need to distinguish between synodic and sidereal rotation. The true, 360 degree sidereal rotation of the moon takes 27.32 earth days. Many erroneously conclude that since the same face of the moon always orients toward earth this means that the moon cannot be rotating. However, if you imagine observing from the north the orbiting of the moon around the earth (the moon does orbit the earth-- another idea that some people don't believe), the only way that the same face orients toward earth is for the moon's orbital and rotational periods to be the same. The moon is tidally locked with earth, and this is what causes the orbital and rotational periods to be the same.

why do they think its an alien head? was there a ufo crash somewhere around here? or a sighting? or did they just dig up some thing and scratch their croatian heads and say hey loooook Blagomir! i just found alien head in hole! call newspaper

Its pretty clear that the moon does not fit in with current astronomical theory so we can only postulate its true origin. Is it a natural celestial body or manufactured? Possibly s little of both. One thing is factual it protects the earth from astroids and provides gravitational power for tidal waters on earth without tides the earth would be much different in climate . Maybe it is part of an ancient terraforming project to make earth a planet favorable to life forms similar to humans . Was the moon always there? I would think the first real question would be when the moon first appeared in orbit around the earth? Do we really know if it was in place in the time of dinosaurs ? Or did it appear at a later time.. The reason i chose this marker in time is because the extinction of the dinosaur was supposed to be due to a great climactic change and it is also the marker for the beginning of mammal dominated life on earth questions... Questions !!!
