The Mysterious Death of Frank Olsen On November 28, 1953, Frank Olsen fell to his death from the 13th floor in the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York. He was a bacteriologist at Fort Detrick, and worked for the CIA. His death was originally ruled a suicide, later examinations 40 years afterward of the body would prove otherwise. During the 1950s he would test the effects of various bacteria on monkeys in the laboratory. Later he worked in the CIA project Artichoke. The project involved the use of psychotropic drugs on individuals to get information out of them. The project would be used on suspected former Nazis and Soviets spies. One such drug was LSD, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide. It was later suspected that Frank Olsen himself was given this same drug unbeknownst to him. It was after this that he commented that he had made “A Terrible Mistake.” Shortly after this he went to New York accompanied by a CIA agent. It was there that he met a physician provided by the Secret Service. This is where he fell out of a 13th story window. In the nineties Frank Olsen son, Eric Olsen, had his fathers body exhumed. He had another autopsy done. What he uncovered was that there was forensic evidence to suggest that Frank Olsen was hit with a blow to the head before he fell out of the 13th floor of the Hotel Pennsylvania. I just saw an AWESOME documentary on this on one of the Discovery channels. I am convinced they got this right. His grave was even exhumed by his sons request. I'll locate it and post it.
His murder came down to witnessing the CIA experiment with soldiers on sarin nerve gas. The soldiers volunteered for the experiment as it was advertised as a possible cure for the cold. All soldiers were traumatized, and one of the interviewees was patient in the experiment. One poor soldier died a horrible death.
Olsen had just talked to his son, in good spirits, and said he looked forward to seeing him in the morning. The reason he was out of town was to see a therapist for some of his misgivings on the procedures he had witnessed, but the therapist was actually a allergist. Crazy shit. He was dosed with LSD at a bar that evening, then, after being exhumed, it came to light that he had received a major blow to the temple, which would have stunned him long enough to throw him out the window.
Medical exams determined he landed on his feet and fell backwards, cracking his skull - he was still alive and aware, yet not responsive, when an employee of the hotel got to his side.
Fucking tragedy.
