Um... A lightweight glorified speedboat against a several tonne ship.
Noble cause. But truly fucking stupid. I wonder who saved them?
I'm not a big fan of whaling for 'scientific' purposes. Fair enough for traditional purposes. Just use traditional boats then.

AMSA to look at Sea Shepherd Ady Gil collision.THE Federal Government has ordered an investigation into yesterday's clash between a Japanese whaling boat and a Sea Shepherd vessel which left the conservation group's craft badly damaged. Sea Shepard's futuristic lightweight vessel the Ady Gil had its bow sheared off in a collision with the Japanese whaler's ship Shonan Maru 2 in the Southern Ocean. Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the Australian Maritime Safety Authority had been directed to investigate the incident. She said she had seen incident of the video. "It deeply concerns me. Lives are at risk. It seems miraculous that lives were not lost," she said. But she said the Australian Government would not send a boat to monitor operations in the Southern Ocean. Ms Gillard said the Oceanic Viking was sent to the region two years ago to observe and "it did not influence behaviour". Opposition environment spokesman Greg Hunt earlier today called for the Australian Government to immediately send a non-military observation ship to the Southern Ocean. The Government has also not ruled out taking international court action against whaling. "We are strenuously opposed to whaling and violence at sea," Ms Gillard said. "We believe in the right to protest." Before winning the last federal election, Labor promised to take international legal action to stop Japanese whaling. No legal action has been taken. The Sea Shepherd group has been strongly protesting Japan's whaling operations, including using stink bombs. www.news.com.au/breaking-news/amsa-to-look-at-greenpeace-ady-gil-collision/story-e6frfku0-1225816977421

Its pretty clear the Ady Gil was in fact stationary when the Japanese ship turned onto them.

Its also clear the Ady Gil was laying nets/ropes to snare the propellers of the whaling ship.
But does that justify the ramming?
Wes, I wouldnt hold my breath for that report, we are still waiting for the one into the fire on that boat people ship that caught on fire, when was that, 4 months ago.
This government is great at calling for reports, not so great at delivering them.
