Antarctica once had tropical climate, scientists say.An international team of scientists who have arrived back in Hobart from Antarctica say they have evidence the icy continent once had a tropical climate. The team studied ice and mud cores from the Antarctic sea floor. The crew of the integrated ocean drilling program drilled more than 3,000 cores showing a geological history going back 54 million years. Co-leader of the expedition Dr Carlota Escutia says the team's findings will allow scientists to understand more about the dramatic changes in the earth's climate and improve future predictions. Dr Escutia says one of the aims of the project is to better understand how Antarctica was transformed from a warm, wet tropical ecosystem into a polar environment. ahh I always thought this but now for a bigger and actually scary question what was antarcica s original location? and why did it move? thats really 2 questions but still..... The southern continents on Earth were once joined in a single supercontinent, Gondwanaland, with Antarctica in the centre. Over a period of 150 million years this supercontinent broke up and moved apart, to form the continents we know today. Buried under the ice of Antarctica is a rich collection of fossils, which will tell us much about the land as it was when it was situated farther north. Fossil finds in Antarctica have included the 1982 discovery of the first mammal remains, the 1986 discovery of the first dinosaur fossil. Such fossils have provided a nearly complete record of the breakup of the ancient supercontinent. www.worsleyschool.net/science/files/antarctica/page.html

Now for the real questions of how long ago, and if the climate shift was sudden or gradual If it was from Continental drift it would have been gradual, but if from a source like an impact it could of been sudden.

... what did admiral byrd really discover on that flight over antarcica??? The Diary of Admiral Byrd is probably a fake created by the head of the "The Society for a Complete Earth” organization, Native American Captain Tawani Wakawa Shoush, in the 1970s. www.bibliotecapleyades.net/tierra_hueca/esp_tierra_hueca_20.htm
(Page 5) “---I cannot see the sun anymore…”
How could he have seen the sun anyway? February is a period of total darkness!
