The Sky Before a storm Struck 3-15-10 Whoever took these pictures did an awesome job. Wow, take a look at this .... These pictures were made by a man in Magee, MS where the eye of the storm passed thru- what an experience. Magee is 150 miles North of Waveland, They are remarkably dramatic... The following picture was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005. This is believed to be the tidal wave The tidal wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high. When it slammed into the beach front communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland, Mississippi to completely destroy 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and over a mile inland. The destruction only started there. The flooding that continued inland destroyed the contents of all but 35 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people. wow now that looks scary stuff

first off. those pics do not look anything like bay st.louis. that looks like storm cells in the midwest because of the flat lands.
katrina first made landfall in buras-triumph, louisiana then hit again at the mississippi state line between st. tammany parish, louisiana and hancock county, mississippi.
there are no tidal waves during a hurricane. there are storm surges. the highest recorded surge was just under 27 feet and that was only because it hit the shallow water ways as it got more inland.
they eye did pass over waveland and bay st.louis but no tornadoes were reported in that area.
i was smack in the middle of the hurricane and while it was bad the exaggerations that have came out of it piss me off. i shot footage from alabama to louisiana for 53 straight hours. i saw what happened first hand.

what makes a storm surge more dangerous than a title wave is the way it rolls in instead of crashing like you'd see from a tsunami. they are very deceptive.

Ahh. The first two pics remind me of home. Nothin like a good ole thunderstorm to clear the air.
Never got a storm surge in Saskatchewan. Saw a tornado hit a lake once though.
