Interesting. Looks more like a civilization than just a place for native stature building. I have always felt that Easter Island was the remains of a once bigger land mass or possibly an outpost/seaport for a larger civilization.

I wonder if the engravings on the statures are the normal symbolic type or do the markings on the statures represent the tattoos worn by the people.
