Wall St protests spread south THE anti-Wall Street protest that began in New York last month will spread to Melbourne this week, local organisers say. Occupy Wall Street, which began as a protest against social inequality, corporate influence on democracy and the apparent absence of legal repercussions for those behind the global financial crisis in the US, encouraged protesters to camp out in Wall Street. The movement aims to hold open citizen forums and it has spread to more than 1000 cities in the US and scores of cities around the world. Occupy Melbourne's Facebook page, which already has almost 3000 followers, says it will begin an occupation camp in the City Square next Saturday that may remain for weeks. Organiser Nick Carson said they aimed to speak for the 99 per cent of the population who were politically and economically under-represented in favour of the wealthy and influential 1 per cent. ''The idea of general assemblies has been springing up around the world and the idea is to get a real democracy functioning on the ground. Not from the top down,'' Mr Carson said. ''Politicians are representing giant lobby groups, business councils and wealthy individuals - who seem to have the loudest voices in parliament.'' As a loose cluster of diverse action groups, critics of Occupy Movement say the ''leaderless'' group's agenda is ill defined. ''It sounds broad and vague because it is. It is for the people of Melbourne to decide what the agenda is,'' Mr Carson said. A City of Melbourne spokeswoman said the protesters did not need a permit to protest. www.theage.com.au/victoria/wall-st-protests-spread-south-20111009-1lfuh.html#ixzz1aOHdzP1B

Protesters bring London to standstill Sun Oct 9, 2011 5:49PM GMT Hundreds of British activists have occupied Westminster Bridge in London in a last-ditch effort to stop ratification of the National Health Service (NHS) reform bill at the House of Lords. Protesters closed the bridge on Sunday in a symbolic act that disconnected parliament from St Thomas' Hospital, on the other side of the Thames, creating severe disruption in central London, British media reported. During the protest, crowds chanted "we are the 99%" -- a slogan associated with the Wall Street protests in New York, and activists unveiled a huge banner reading, "Save our NHS." "By blocking Westminster Bridge we symbolically block the bill from getting from parliament to our hospitals," organisers said. "Yes, it will be disruptive. Yes, it will stop the traffic. But this is an emergency and we have to shout as loud as we can," they added. Trade unionists, pensioners, health workers and comedians, including TV personality Mark Thomas, also attended the protest gathering. "Peaceful protest and civil disobedience have a long and proud history in this country, and are a perfectly legitimate response to plans that no-one voted for and no-one wants," said Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS). The health and social care bill will be discussed at the Lords this week. Earlier in September, trade unions announced that millions of public sector workers would walk out their jobs on November 30th in their battle with the government over pensions. www.presstv.ir/detail/203666.html The snowball is getting bigger!

The right wing nuts are claiming that these folks are thugs and are inciting violence. Nothing farther from the truth, but then they're good at that.

The right wing nuts are claiming that these folks are thugs and are inciting violence. Nothing farther from the truth, but then they're good at that. Yes BBC news 24 have not said diddley squat until now including their internet home page, much like the newspapers. You have to use the search feature. Daily Mail does have a lot of good pictures though. www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?sel=site&searchPhrase=occupy+wall+streetSo now BBC choose to Allow the Republicans to call The Movement a Mob and Anti Capitalists with no clear message. We The People, The Movement should be or are Anti Capitalist's because I personally do not see any difference from a Dictatorship Communistic Regime ! ! ! Regime, sounds French to me, Funny that..........RĂ©gime. How very well done, Demonise and Patronising ! ! ! October 15th Global Day Of Action Posted Oct. 12, 2011, 3:57 p.m. EST by OccupyWallSt Hi, we write you from the International Commission of Sol, in Madrid (Spain). We know that you have a lot to do in the USA, as we have here in Spain, but the 15O is coming and we need you to make a milestone in history out of it. It's the great chance we expected to start a real global revolution! This is what we are doing, and could be wonderful if you join us: Please spread the web page of the call 15october.net/, the graphic material 15october.net/spread-it/ and the videos 15october.net/category/video/. And please send us your videos, banners, posters to contact.takethesquare@gmail.com so that we can compile them and put them in common. Send all of this through your mailing lists, to all your contacts, but also to all your friends. Explain to everybody that this is not just one mobilization. It's more of "we are reinventing ourselves". Tell the occupiers how the movement is popping all over the world that extend from the streets of the Middle East to Wall Street. Also tell the occupiers that over 650 cities have already confirmed they will do an event on October 15th . You can check in map.15october.net/ and if a city plans to do an event invite; tell them to add it to the map. map.15october.net/reports/submit Explain to them that 15O is the moment to wake up all of us together and especially tell them that it is in their hands to make it a success. It's not any more about parties, organizations or unions. The call should come from all of the organizations and from the people of the world like you. There is a text that could be very useful to send this last message: "who are you?" map.15october.net/page/index/1It would be great to tell your friends abroad to spread it through their countries. We need one revolution in each single city of the world. For a further explanation about the mobilization and a more specific plan there is a document written by the international network takethesquare. takethesquare.net/2011/09/24/15th-october-whats-the-plan-15oct/In order to promote and discuss the activities for October 15th, everyone is encouraged to participate and to organize local meetings to plan the details and discuss the preparation of the events for the 15th. Occupy Canada rallies spread in economic 'awakening' Canadian rally sites in Global Day of Action expand to at least 15 cities Canadian organizers are revving up their plans for the Occupy Wall Street-conceived global action day, the most adventurous idea yet for a movement that some experts say has the potential to trigger a major shift in the economic thinking of governments and big corporations. The number of Occupy Canada cities for Saturday's rallies has grown to at least 15, while the international total is now more than 1,500. At least 20 cities also have Facebook pages dedicated solely to the movement. As of Thursday noon ET, Occupy Canada's Facebook page garnered more than 12,000 "likes" and more than 17,700 people were "talking about this." Offshoot Occupy@ cities include Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, several other cities in B.C., Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Edmonton, Calgary, Saint John, Moncton and St. John's. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/10/13/occupy-canada-protests.html?cmp=rss
