Okay we have a guy who started out as a flyweight (108lbs) in Pacquiao and has demolished guys (de la Hoya, Hatton) who are 30 to 40 pounds above his original body weight. You have a guy in Cotto, who is an animal, a murderous body puncher, who has lost only once, to the cheater(hand wrap scandal) Antonio Margarito. Can Manny overcome the odds again and get that coveted shot at Floyd Mayweather? I think he has a chance. What do you cats think?

slith i'll take the bet. but after watching the hbo series that followed the two as they prepared i got to tell you i think cotto is in better shape and seems extremely focused.
i think this fight is going to be between cotto and freddie roach........will roach have the perfect game plan that manny will only need follow or will he have to improvise and adapt? roach is known for his well thought out plans but there is going to come a fight where he will have to make big changes in the plan between rounds because it isn't working...........how will he hold up under those circumstances and can he using the translator get his points across in time?
oscar SHOULD have been heavier by at least 25-30 pounds during his fight with pacman but he wasn't...........he was just taller and because of his low stance he negated that advantage.

If you mean can Freddy get his point to Manny?, yeah he can. Manny speaks English. Freddy is a master when it comes to game plans, so in essence I am still really up in the air on this. I just think Cotto will be a monster come fight night. Possibly outweighing Manny by 15 to 20 lbs. But Manny is a freak of nature, a southpaw, and will be much faster. I'll never sell him short. Excellent point about Oscar, didn't notice that in the fight, but now that you mention it, you are bang on. Whoever wins, they have Floyd next and that will be the one I want to see.

manny speaks very broken english and has a hard time understanding english if he is not totally focused on the speaker. they use buboy to translate so manny can listen without having to think too hard about it. when freddie needs to make a serious point he'll make manny focus on him. thing is even when manny lost the gameplan was solid manny just wasn't executing it.
question is during the fight if cotto is the first fighter to poke holes in a roach plan can roach effectively adapt mid fight......and can his instructions which may contradict the original plan.....get through to manny.
remember what makes the pacquiao/roach team so great is mannys willingness to follow roach's training to the letter. by time he reaches the ring he has fully assimilated everything he needs to fight roach's fight..............its instinct. so how does this delicate balance hold up when roach has to rethink what they are doing and reprogran manny in one minute chunks.?
i'm not saying it is a inevitability just wondering. cotto had a excellent camp. he's in shape better than before he got sent to the hospital. i think manny is going to have to stop him early. if they make it to the 5th round then cotto has found away to keep manny at bay. preferably for him by being successful in his body attacks.........if that is the case manny will be softened up and ripe for head shots as he protects his mid section. it would make for some exciting rounds after 5.
if manny wins this fight i'd have to give him the pound for pound over mayweather.

Okay your on! Drex, yes I agree that Roach and Manny have got great chemistry. Roach was never as good a fighter as he is a trainer. (BTW, is it just me, or does he talk like he's a bit punchdrunk?) But being a top notch fighter there is a point where the instincts kick in and you just do your thing and adapt. I think if Manny wins, he wins with his heart and guts. Cause if it does go to trench warfare a la Hagler/Hearns fight, he's gonna get hit with some bombs. I just think Cotto will be too big and strong come fight night. Not as fast as Manny mind you, but his body shots are killers. I'm excited for this one and I'm off this weekend so I will be catching it at the local bar
