The first trial of the polypill, a daily tablet combining several low-dose drugs that could protect against heart attacks and strokes, is launched in Britain. It is the first trial of the drug among over-50s in the UK, The Guardian reported. The idea was first put forward by two British professors in 2003. Prof. Sir Nicholas Ward and Prof. Malcolm Law, from the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine at Queen Mary, University of London, suggested in a paper in the British Medical Journal that a pill combining low doses of several drugs to bring down cholesterol and blood pressure could save lives. "The polypill strategy could largely prevent heart attacks and stroke if taken by everyone aged 55 and older and everyone with existing cardiovascular disease,” they wrote. “It would be acceptably safe and with widespread use would have a greater impact on the prevention of disease in the Western world than any other single intervention," they added. The idea has gained currency and is being explored by more than one team of researchers. The researchers hope the trial, which began on Tuesday, will pave the way for a pill which anybody over 50 in the UK will be able to obtain at low cost from a pharmacy within a couple of years. "The polypill has the potential to be a daily preventive method against heart attacks and strokes, just as the contraceptive pill is a daily preventive method to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. This trial is a step towards making access to the polypill a reality," said one of the researchers conducting the trial at the Wolfson Institute, Dr. David Wald. The pill is being made by the Indian generics company Cipla. All components are out of patent and therefore can be copied and are cheap. It contains simvastatin to lower cholesterol and three drugs at half the standard dose to reduce blood pressure -- losartan, hydrochlorthiazide, and amlodopine. the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine at Queen Mary, University of London is The Wolfson Institute funded by a number of Zionist organisations including the City of London Corporation and the Rothschilds The following organisations contributed funds that were used to erect the building that houses the Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine: •The Wolfson Foundation •Universities' Funding Council •The Special Trustees of St Bartholomew's and St Mark's Hospitals •Sir Philip Harris •Medical Research Council • City of London Corporation

yeah well when you live in a place where the lack of farming skills have stripped the land of any nutrients and you got the world writing songs sending money and praying for your salvation you pretty much need to be appreciative of the fact anyone is doing anything for your ass. Seriously. Africa is where the first intelligent human first walked the land. You'd be hard pressed to find much intelligence there now but you'll find tons of superstitions and tribal behavior that would make most ancient civilizations laugh. It's like the further away from Africa you get the higher the intelligence.
I understand that the above could be mistaken as racist propaganda...........at the very worst it was the attitude of an arrogant American.......nothing more.

the country has been exploited by massive monopolising, africa is so controlled that it will never be aloud to stand up for its self. Like all great nations, africa was once a very powerful kingdom, but like all kingdoms or empires there control is not infinite, all great civiliations battle for supremacy, win it and expand then fall history is very repetitive when it comes conquests.

Yeah and we all shed a tear for Africa, but until these people learn to stand up for themselves and take control of thier own destiny and not exploit thier own people for greed ( Nigeria, Zimbabwe) then nothing over there will change.
