Petraeus: 'Koran Burning Day' Endangers Troops By Efrem Graham News Anchor & Reporter Tuesday, September 07, 2010
The proposed mosque near New York City's Ground Zero and the construction of several mega-mosques across the country have many Americans pushing back against what they see as encroaching Islam.
Dr. Terry Jones, senior pastor of Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., is hosting "International Burn a Koran Day" on 9/11. The move has prompted some to question just how far these protests should go.
Still, Jones is adamant about the holding the event despite a warning from Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, that it could cost America lives and endanger the entire effort in Afghanistan.
"It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems," Petraeus said in a statement to the media. "Not just here, but everywhere in the world, we are engaged with the Islamic community."
"We have received over one hundred death threats, some of them being very graphic," Jones said. "Some of them stating exactly when they will come, how they will kill us, what they will do. But then again, does that not show and reveal the nature of Islam?"
Jones is going forward even against the urgings of groups like the National Association of Evangelicals and World Evangelical Alliance, who said burning the Koran would be an act of hatred that's contrary to the Christian faith.
Meanwhile, Christians across the U.S. are protesting the proposals for mega-mosques across the nation, including Murfreesboro Tenn. and Norwalk, Conn.
Also, Bill Keller, a Florida Internet pastor, is holding Christian services near Ground Zero to counter the Moslem initiative there.
"When they decided to build a mosque and decided to preach what I consider a 1,400-year-old lie from hell, I decided that somebody should be down there preaching the truth of God's word," Keller said.

"The greatest fear is becoming what you most hate". Dunno who said that, but it seems appropiate.
They burn books, have draconian laws, stone people to death, we are supposed to be better than that.
Freedom comes with a price, one of those prices is not doing stupid fuckin things in the name of religion.

To all, religion, whatever the faith, or lack thereof, to which you subscribe, is a deeply personal thing, it is between you and that voice in your head, my voice tells me that everybody else is wrong, but that I should keep that news to myself.
