it all depends on what people use the internet for mate, the internet can be used in many different ways, from ordering goods to running a biz or making music etc if people use the internet for pratting about on facebook or gaming then you will not advance in the knowledge department lol if people get drawn in to an internet site forum and spend hours bitching then the worst will be brought out of people and they will just keep going back to the same place to have the same arguments day in day out then people will be moving noware and waisting the vast amount that the internet has to offer.............just my opinion mate

i think it only highlights people who are already stupid fucks. on a whole i think it is making us smarter...........but its making us smarter in real time. which means we are smarter as long as we are connected. take away the internet for just one month and watch as the world goes dumb.

With regards to the OP. I personaly think, thanx to the relative anonymity, that it can brig out both the best and the worst in anyone. Repressed feelings/attitudes can be expressed with little consiquence. Some may be sick and depraved to me. But, to them it may seem normal. They just can't express it in the 'real world' and, quite frankly I'm glad they don't.
There are other times it may bring the best out in people. It gives a voice to that person who has a great idea, yet because of social stigmas. Is ignored. Wether it be they aren't pretty enough, didn't get a degree or are too young/old to be taken seriously.
As too making us more stoopid. I don't think so. More impatient, more full of usless facts and less willing to actually investigate an idea properly. Quite possibly.
I know in my proffesion. It has made me quite cynical and alot more knowledgeable. In the past we had to take a specialists word on something. To most extents we still do. But, I can now find out (at least the basics) about what they were talking about, and if what they propose is relevant, or they just think it's easy money. That doesn't excuse anyone not in my line of work telling me what to do, because they read it on the internet. That is dangerous. Imagine if you went for an operation and told the doc how to do his job? Just coz you read about it on the interweb?
In all (sorry starting to ramble), I don't believe the internet is making us stupid. It's making us more knowledgeable. But, less wise.

i agree with what drextin and darrylmckay said that the net only brings out the stupid thats already inside people because on the internet they can pretend theyre more powerful than they really are. Ive actually learned a lot from the net. Oh wikipedia where would I be without you?
