Driving over to see family, we had to pull over time approx 8pm 23rd Dec my wife and I saw a very bright blue/white light in the sky 30 degs off the horizon, motionless no avaition noise or flashing coloured lights and stationary extremely bright with clear sky visibility.
My first thought was Jupiter but it was not visible according to the local astronomical charts for this time of year only Mars, direction was Easterly so discount Venus as that sets in the West and other brighter stars Castor, Pollux and Procyon, although classed as bright stars were not in comparison a patch on this. The object was brighter than Sirius and that was below the horizon at that time??
Oh a brief supa nova, nothing in news.
My only other conclusion was that of a distant helicopter too far away to be heard,, but could its light be that bright? any ideas guys?
Must add I have looked at the ufo sighting pages and their were numerous sightings of Orange triangles and orbs but nothing so far of a bright blue white light?

well it s hard to say what you saw because all it was was a lite. was it stationary or did it move? did it change direction? if it did move was the speed a constant or did it change speed? did it change altitude? how and when did you lose track of it? I'm thinking its probably one of ours but who can really say? I live in an area with alot of commecial and military air traffic and have seen some odd things but only 1out of about 1000 of the odd things i ve seen I would say was a possible ufo. Ive seen lights in the sky many times and sometimes even landing lites on aircraft can change their hue yes from white to blue or from white to greenish blue .... or can appear to blink out when the craft changes direction ! but this color change is because of air density relative to humidity sometimes almost like a rainbow or prism effect but no matter what it was I ll say good eye aard & keep watching the sky.

Thanks for the input gents, number 10 in the UK hit parade eh BrillsB. I do have a very good daytime vid camera on my mobile phone but even on the night setting the picture is abysmal.
Wiggy concerning the object it was stationary all the while 8 mins, although unfortunately I was in a hurry to do the father xmas visitations, but it ressembled an arc light brighter than Sirius by a long way, I wondered if it was a combi of 2 planets but again the star maps do not confirm this idea. I went back the next night same time to confirm it was something astronomical but it was not there hence the idea of a distant heli.

sounds like a good sighting mate, my phone cam is crap at night too. On the 28th i was coming off hayling island & saw something way up with strobing lights going side to side, it was really strange & I pointed it out to my dad who wouldnt stop so I could try take a decent pic. god knows. Then getting off the bridge we saw loads of orange glowing lights, which turned out to be chinese bloody lanterns!!

Crystal clear cold night, no cloud/mist, damn sorry to have missed the scoop but as I say it was like a very bright Venus arc light but in the Eastern sky so not following the sun setting in the west, I am now going to keep eyes peeled, thats when I am not on here tapping on my keypads.
