Portland police Wednesday released a sketch of man suspected of exposing himself to at least seven people - including children and joggers - in the last month in Northeast Portland.
They described the suspect as a white man, 20 to 40 years old, between 5-foot-9 and 5- foot-10-inches tall, weighing between 170 and 185 pounds, with a medium to heavy build, dark brown hair, a scruffy face, wearing a white T-shirt, blue or green boxer shorts and dirty old running shoes.
In one encounter, a possible suspect car was described as either a gray, gold or brown larger American sedan, police said.
The most recent encounter was reported just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, when a man exposed himself to a 9-year-old boy outside a home at Northeast 45th Avenue and Stanton Street, police said. A witness told police the man ran north on 45th Avenue, stopped in front of a residence in the 2800 block, dropped his pants in front of the child, then ran away and was last seen running east on Northeast Stanton Street.
A search for him was unsuccessful.
About 6:30 a.m. Monday, a flasher apparently running around Northeast Portland sparked multiple calls to 911.
People in the area of Northeast Alameda Street and Alameda Terrace reported that a man was running around without pants. One caller said the man was chasing her on Northeast 31st Avenue near Alberta Street.
A North Precinct sergeant worked with some witnesses to develop the suspect sketch.
The sketch includes something around the man's neck. Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said in an e-mail that it "could be a bandana or his boxer shorts. Descriptions vary.''
At 6:40 am. on Jan. 28, police reported a man had exposed himself to two women joggers at Northeast 29th Avenue and Stanton Street.
Within the prior three weeks, police said a man had exposed himself to kids, between the ages of 10 and 12, three times. In each, he approached a child and exposed himself as he stood in the street or on a sidewalk.
The victims told police that the man would expose his penis through the opening in his boxers or completely pull down his boxers then run away.
The incidents have occurred at Northeast 36th Avenue and Klickitat Street, 37th Avenue and Failing Street, and 70th Avenue and Mason Street.
North Precinct officers are adding patrols to the areas where the flasher was reported, especially 6 to 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. when he's been seen, Simpson said.
When police do receive a 911 call on a reported sighting, "all available units are rolling to the area to check the neighborhood,'' Simpson said.
Police hope the sketch may help identify the man or that officers will get a better car description or license plate that could lead to an arrest.
Police ask area residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Additionally, if people living in the area have residential surveillance cameras, investigators are asking them to check recordings for any possible images of the suspect.link
